Meningitis guide for childcarers

* The Meningitis Trust has produced a guide for early years professionals about meningitis and meningococcal disease. Understanding Meningitis is in the form of an A4 folder and has easy-to-read pull-out sections giving clear information on the signs and symptoms of meningitis, its after-effects and treatment, and what action to take if carers suspect a child in their care has the disease. Bev Hart, education manager at the Meningitis Trust, said, 'Children under five, and particularly under one, are the group at highest risk of developing meningitis and meningococcal disease, which is why it is vital carers and educators of pre-school children receive quality information and education on this subject.' The Trust has 13,000 guides available free on a first-come, first-served basis by telephoning 0907 108 0588. Calls cost 1 per minute and take no longer than three minutes. Note there is only one guide per address or setting.
