The NCMA held a conference attended by more than 250 employers to explain how they and their staff can benefit from the 50 a week tax and national insurance exemption for approved childcare.
Concern was expressed that unregistered childcare, including grandparents, which currently enjoys some national insurance relief, will no longer be exempt.
Gill Haynes, NCMA chief executive, told delegates, 'Voucher companies tell us that many employees use vouchers for informal carers. They will become disgruntled unless the employer helps them to get these people approved or registered, or to find alternative care.'
She said the NCMA, which has helped to shape policy as a member of an employer-supported childcare focus group with the Inland Revenue, is planning to issue employers with guidance on registration and approval and how to support employees using non-registered care.
