Music corner

Music One2One The aim of the Music One2One Project is to encourage communication through music between parents/carers and their babies. The group sessions we are running at Sure Start and Family Centres are for small groups of parents and their babies. Although there is a fixed day and time slot when the session happens, the start and end times are fluid, with free music-play, with no pressure on when to arrive or leave.

In the middle of the session, everyone gathers for some songs and activities. The music practitioner begins with a 'hello' song, singing quite slowly and softly with long pauses, deliberately making contact with each baby as she sings their name. She watches each baby's responses when they recognise their own name being sung. Some smile broadly, clap their hands, become more excited; some will look up more cautiously. The practitioner talks to the parents about how their children are responding.
