Song props
Sacks, cards, little toys and storyboards to go with songs are available from music education suppliers and general suppliers, or can be home-made.
Linking songs with objects helps to bring the song alive, to make connections with other areas of learning such as language and number, and to encourage the children to be playful with songs. Once children know a song, leave props out in a singing area, ideally with CDs to listen to, and encourage children to initiate their own singing play.
Song sacks: A couple of 'song sacks' are available commercially but you can easily make your own. I put one object or picture into a large drawstring bag to represent each song as we learn it. These can be things we find in the nursery, brought from home or pictures drawn by the children.
