Musical training boosts memory

Encouraging children to learn a musical instrument will boost their memory capacity and may give them an advantage in school, according to research by psychologists at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Early years consultant Marjorie Ouvry said, 'There have been similar studies in the past linking music to memory, but it's great that this is once again being highlighted. Music links both hemispheres of the brain - the "affective" right side and the "analytical or linguistic" left side.

Music integrates the left and the right and is useful in linking brain functioning.'
