National 'hotspots' map launched for would-be adopters

A map showing prospective adopters the areas of the country where children are waiting for new homes has gone online today on the Department for Education website.

The Government has also set up a new telephone information service staffed by adoptive parents, who are able to share their first-hand experiences and give advice and support to people considering adoption.

The information line is funded by the DfE but run by a group of three charities, which specialise in adoption services and support - Coram, Coram Children’s Legal Centre and Adoption UK.

The ‘Hotspots’ map is broken down by local authority and shows the number of children in each area waiting to be adopted.

Today’s announcements are the next in a series of reforms set out by the Prime Minister last year to overhaul the adoption system to make it faster, more effective and robust.
