Private and voluntary provi-ders from the Save Our Nurseries group were invited to meet Anne McIntosh, who has replaced Maria Miller in the shadow cabinet reshuffle and had previously lent her support to the group.

Darrell King, owner of the Old School House Nursery, Headcorn, and chair of the Association of PVI providers in Kent, said, 'The minister is very much in favour of supporting us. We had a very productive meeting.'

Ms McIntosh has re-tabled the Early Day Motion for the new parliamentary session, which urges the Government to stop the introduction of the Code of Practice to allow for an assessment of its impact on private, voluntary and independent nurseries (News, 3 August).
