Providers meet council about NEG

More than 150 private and voluntary providers in Kent are expected to attend a meeting next week called by Kent County Council to discuss the revised version of the local authority's interpretation of the Government's rules for free nursery education. The council sent a draft of the revised Delegated Conditions, its version of the Government Code of Practice, to all PVI providers last month.

Darrell King, owner of the Old School House nursery in Headcorn and chair of the Association of PVI Providers (Kent), said that 234 of more than 700 PVI providers had responded to the council's consultation.

Many feel there has been little significant change from the original document, withdrawn last September after protests from nursery owners about its onerous conditions, she said.

Leader of KCC Paul Carter told Nursery World the council wanted to hear from providers to gain a proper understanding of how the ban on top-up fees in the code will affect their business.
