Neighbourhood funds to help nursery chain grow

The Buffer Bear group has become one of the first major nursery chains to receive support from the New Opportunities Fund's Building Neighbourhood Nurseries programme. Buffer Bear has been awarded 209,880 to refurbish St Stephen's Day Nursery, based in an annexe of Essendine Primary School in Westminster, London. The grant will support the refurbishment and expansion of the nursery, creating a further 50 childcare places. Buffer Bear leases the premises from Westminster Council, which awarded the nursery group the contract to run six of its day nurseries in spring 2000.
