New fathers are being refused their right to paid paternity leave

New fathers are being refused their right to paid paternity leave because they have not given their employer the 15 weeks' notice period required by law, a new report from Citizens' Advice reveals. The report says that many men do not realise that they have to give employers the same amount of notice for two weeks' paternity leave as women need to give for 12 months' maternity leave. It argues that the notice period for fathers is disproportionate and should be reduced. The charity is calling for better-paid, longer periods of paternity leave and more choice over when new fathers can take time off. For details visit the website www.citizensadvice.org.uk.
