New help for asylum work

Practitioners working with asylum seekers can benefit from a resource pack produced by the Department of Health and the Refugee Council, giving information on their entitlement to healthcare and how they can access help from the National Asylum Support Service. It also covers the latest Home Office policy, health guidelines, an overview of social care legislation and mental health. The pack highlights examples of good practice and initiatives such as local development schemes, personal medical services and health assessments for asylum seekers at induction centres. It also aims to promote a greater understanding of cultural differences and expectations of those seeking asylum. The Caring for Dispersed Asylum Seekers Resource Pack can be downloaded from www.doh.gov/ asylumseekers/resourcepack.
