The postgraduate programme, aimed at encouraging the very best graduates to sign up to be leaders in the early years sector, started in November and last month had its second intake of students (News, 15 December 2010). Ms Teather met both intakes of graduates to find out how they are experiencing the new qualification, why they wanted to undertake the training and what they aim to do when they have qualified.
She called the students a 'pioneering group' and said, 'We are very proud of you and have great hopes for you.'
Speaking to Nursery World, Ms Teather said, 'The foundation years are critical years for children. What happens from birth to five sets up what happens in later life, so for this Government that is a priority, particularly for children who come from poorer backgrounds.
