New nursery is to the manor born

A manor house with a history going back to the 15th century is being transformed into a nursery.

The historic building, which is part of Ruxley Manor Garden Centre in Sidcup, Kent and has been empty since 2000, is being converted into a facility that will offer 43 places to children aged between three months and five years.

The new setting, called Grace's Day Nursery, is scheduled to open in the autumn. It will be open from 7am to 7pm, 52 weeks per year, and employ around 12 staff.

James Evans, director of Grace's Day Nursery, who also runs Ruxley Manor Garden Centre, said, 'My wife, who is a doctor at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and I thought that there was an opportunity for a new nursery in the area. When we were looking for childcare for our three-year-old daughter there was nothing we thought was suitable. We want to make the nursery into exactly what we wanted for our child.
