The options open to a young playworker in paid work who wants to gain an NVQ level 2 are outlined in the second part of our training series by Julia Richards holly has been working in an after-school club for just over six months.

holly has been working in an after-school club for just over six months.

She enjoys the work but, following an Ofsted inspection, she realises that she needs to gain a qualification. There are a couple of other playworkers at the club who also need to work towards level 2 qualifications, so the management committee are looking for funding to pay for their training.

As Holly is under 25, she could think about choosing an apprenticeship route into being a qualified playworker.

APPRENTICESHIPS IN ACTIVE LEISURE AND LEARNING

As playwork is a component of the Active Leisure and Learning Sector, the apprenticeship will offer Holly a supported route to recognised playwork qualifications. Apprenticeships, formerly known as foundation modern apprenticeships, are aimed at young people aged from 16 to 24. The scheme is also available without funding to people aged over 25.
