The National Childminding Association (NCMA) has launched a Quality Assurance scheme for individual childminders in England and Wales. The Quality First programme follows the Children Come First scheme for approved childminding networks. Sue Griffin, NCMA training and quality assurance manager, stressed that it was not for brand-new childminders and was 'complementary' to Children Come First. The NCMA hopes that the scheme will boost the recruitment and retention of childminders. Quality First is awarded on three levels of development, and childminders can decide which levels they want to aim for. The certificate is valid for three years. The programme costs 200 (including VAT).
