Nominate a playworker

Do you know an inspiring playworker, or feel that you deserve recognition for your hard work? The search is now on for the SkillsActive Playworker of the Year at the Childcare Stars Awards, and Out of School readers can nominate deserving candidates. Maybe you have the next Hazel Keen (pictured with designer and television personality Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen) at your club. She was crowned Playworker of the Year at last year's awards, run by 4Children, supported by Sure Start and in association with Nursery World magazine.

Hazel was put forward by her boss, Julie Kent, for turning Woodleys before- and after-school club in Aldbourne, Wiltshire, into a soaring success.

'Before Hazel, Woodleys was suffering; now the atmosphere is buzzing,' said Julie. Hazel listened to the children's wishes, developed behavioural strategies and, above all, created a fun club.
