Martin McGuinness has presented awards totalling Pounds 300,000 to a number of summer schools on behalf of the New Opportunity Fund's Out of School Hours Learning Programme. He said, 'Out-of- school-hours learning helps raise our young people's self-esteem, increase their confidence and reinforce their learning in a less formal, and, very importantly, in a fun environment.' Projects receiving funding include Waveney Community in Ballymena, where children aged four to nine will enjoy a scheme with a health and safety theme. A two-week summer project at Sydenham Infants School in Belfast will focus on developing literacy standards among children in years two and three.
