Toddling pirates

Children and staff at Busy Bees in Bromborough, Wirral, raised over155 for Barnardo's taking part in a pirate toddle waddle.Everyone dressed in fancy dress, hunted for treasure, sang songs andplayed lots of games.

Tall tales

Children at Puddle Ducks Day Nursery in Warrington have been taking partin a sunflower competition to see whose flower grows the tallest. One ofthe sunflowers has grown to over nine feet tall.

Police who help us

New Life Pre-School in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, had a visit from thelocal Police Community Support Officer as part of their People Who HelpUs topic. The officer spent a day joining the children in their play andlearning, painting pictures, building towers, playing hide and seek andsitting with them for lunch.

Outstanding boost

Staff at the Parade Day Nursery in Northampton were proud to hear theyhad been rated as 'outstanding' by Ofsted in their latest inspection.Deputy manager Tracey James said, 'Receiving outstanding has given staffa boost in their morale and is great recognition of all the hard workthey do.'

A small world

For their activities to learn about the world, children from PennypotNursery School in Cobham, Surrey, have looked at the different countriessome of them visited over the summer holidays and tasted traditionalforeign foods.

Harvest Festival

Rainbow Private Nursery School near Tadcaster in North Yorkshire went ona trip to a nearby church to deliver food donations for the harvestfestival. Ahead of the trip, children learned about the festival andhelping people less fortunate than themselves.

Litter pickers

Children and staff at Nursery on the Hill in West Malling, Kent, spentan afternoon with people from the local community picking up litter andtidying up. As well as meeting fellow members of the community, thechildren learned about respecting and caring for the environment.

Showtime

This autumn early years settings are welcome at the Polka Theatre inWimbledon, London, for a magical show about the friendship between ayoung boy and a lost penguin. The Travelling Light theatre company'sproduction, 'Lost and Found', is aimed at threeto five-year-olds andbrings to life the children's book by Oliver Jeffers. There is also aspecial adaption of the show for children aged one to two years. 'Lostand Found' is showing at the Polka Theatre from 13 October-12 February2011.
