EGGING THEM ON

Children at Parkhead Community Nursery in Glasgow joined DJs GeorgeBowie and Des McLean from Radio Clyde to launch an Easter Egg Appeal inthe city's East End. The station is aiming to break last year's recordhaul of 8,000 chocolate eggs, which were given to more than 300 West ofScotland children's groups and charities. The appeal is backed by 17Asda stores and hundreds of other firms.

EATING FOR THE TEETH

Children from Little Acorns nursery in Boston, Lincolnshire, received avisit from 'Clive the crocodile' and Ali Thompson from Sure Start. Cliveshowed children his food shopping and the children had to decide whatwas good for their teeth and what wasn't so good.

THANKS TO THE BUILDERS

Children from Strawberry Fields Day Nursery in Gillingham, Kent,celebrated the nursery's 18th birthday and the end of renovation workwith a party. Owner Carrie Dunn said, 'It was a joint celebration. Wealso presented the builders Roy and Carl with a cheque for 170for Demelza House Children's Hospice, a charity they support, as anextra thank-you.' The makeover to the building included new toiletcubicles and cloakroom and new flooring for the 45-place nursery. InStock

INTEGRATED WORKING CD

The Children's Workforce Development Council has released a CD-ROMproviding 12 integrated working tools, including the Common AssessmentFramework, and guidance on different aspects of integrated working, inthe form of simple fact sheets. For a copy e-mailintegratedworking@cwdcouncil.org.uk.

INCLUSIVE DESIGN

KIDS, a charity for the disabled, has produced a guide to creatingaccessible play and childcare environments. Inclusion by Design,launched last week at KIDS Playwork Inclusion Project's annualconference, focuses on six principles of inclusive design and their keyfeatures. Adrian Voce, director of Play England, told the conference,'The blurring of disabled and non-disabled distinctions can have ahugely positive impact on children's lives, but takes real commitmentand understanding on the part of designers and providers.' OPEN FOR BUSINESS

CENTRE FOR BATTLE

A new purpose-built children's centre in Battle, East Sussex, wasofficially opened last week by local councillor Keith Glazier. BattleChildren's Centre, in the grounds of Battle and Langton School, offersextra family services including breast-feeding peer support, and twinsand multiples birth groups. It is one of 22 children's centres acrossthe county.

A frosty February morning made a spiderweb on a willow hut an object ofwonder for Kaci Bailey at Granby House Nursery in Worksop,Nottinghamshire. The nursery children took part in activities thatlasted all day, including sewing, singing, chalking and boxmodelling.
