Building kick-off

Staff and children at St Joseph's Nursery school in Malmesbury,Wiltshire, are celebrating after the nursery moved from a temporaryclassroom to new purpose-built premises. St Joseph's new home wasofficially opened by former rugby international player Matt Perry, whois the brother of the nursery's assistant supervisor, Becky Gray. MrPerry said, 'It is my pleasure to do this, as these days I spend a lotof time with kids on rugby training. It is a fantastic building whichwill perform a vital role in the community.'

Nursery nurse run

A senior nursery nurse from Gomersal, West Yorkshire, has helped toraise over 950 for Cancer Research after taking part in a 5kmcharity run. Val Rosier of Little Acorns Day Nursery took part in therace on 1 June along with her granddaughter Lily and her daughter-in-lawElisa Hilton.

Party like it's 1988

A Busy Bees nursery in Blackpool is holding a big birthday party to markits 20th anniversary. Staff at the nursery on Raikes Parade areorganising the 19 July event, which will include a buffet and disco, andall children who have attended the setting in the past as well as thepresent are invited. Manager Carol Webb said, 'We are pleased to be ableto celebrate this landmark date with a party. We have worked so hard tokeep going over the years that we would really like to see old pupilsand their families coming back to celebrate with us.'

Special fundraiser

A Glasgow mother held a charity evening last week to raise money for thenursery attended by her son until he died last year, aged two. StacieHiggins organised the event, which included a disco and a raffle, in aidof Croftcroighn nursery for children with special needs. Ms Higginssaid, 'We held an event last year to raise money for a headstone andalso for the charity and raised 1,900. We're hoping to top thatthis year.' Facilities at the nursery in Craigend include a hydrotherapypool and sensory room as well as access to nurses and doctors.
