- Computer gift

Children at Alphabet House Day Nursery and Pre-School in Derbyshire wereexcited at the arrival of their new computers, donated by Rise andRecline in Long Eaton. Its managing director Samantha Langtree said,'When we decided to upgrade our computer systems we wanted to ensure ouroriginal PCs were put to good use, and after seeing the excitement onthe faces of the children at Alphabet House I think we have achievedthis.'

- Prizewinning Crche

Ireland's largest childcare provider, Giraffe Childcare and EarlyLearning Centres, was named Creche of the Year 2008 at the Maternity andInfant magazine awards, held at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. Directorof Giraffe's childcare, Dolores O'Donnell, said, 'This award is awonderful recognition of the dedication and professionalism of the staffand care teams in all our centres.'

- Pudsey and friends

Pudsey Bear has been busy visiting nurseries across the country thismonth to help raise money for the BBC Children in Need appeal. Childrenat Little Acorns Day Nursery in Washington, Tyne and Wear, dressed up ascharacters from 'In the Night Garden', 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'ThomasThe Tank Engine' and held a teddy bear's picnic, raising over 100.

- Socks full of money

Children at Northampton Little Acorns Day Nursery did their bit bycollecting socks of money and awarding a prize for the heaviest one -which weighed in at 7lb 8oz. The nursery manager also got into thespirit of the event by taking part in a blindfolded taste-testing. About200 was raised for Children In Need.

- Dressing the part

Staff and children at Topsham House Day Nursery in Leicestershire held asponsored dressing-up day on the theme of favourite television and filmcharacters. The nursery collected 300 for the day and is stillreceiving donations for Children in Need.

- Book tokens

The Free Books for Schools offer by the Times newspaper is back, givingprimary and secondary schools an opportunity to add to their bookcollection. Titles are available for children aged from three to 14,including works by well-loved authors such as Michael Rosen, JaquelineWilson and Roald Dahl.

Schools can now register for the scheme, and will receive 100 bonustokens if they sign up before 30 November.

Children from Stepping Stones Play and Learn Group in Colchester enjoyedrunning around their sensory garden with carrier-bag kites as part of atopic on recycling. The children already recycle leftover yoghurt potsand paper, but it was an exciting discovery to find that plastic bagstied up with string could become playthings for flying and racing.
