Nursery closes for investigation into death of baby in bouncer

A nursery has closed voluntarily while an investigation is carried out into the death of an eight-month-old baby boy there. Cameron Lindsay from Bromsgrove is thought to have become trapped in the folding hood of a Little Shield Rock 'n' Carry baby bouncer at the Sticky Fingers Day Nursery in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, on 29 March. He was critically injured and taken to hospital in Redditch, but was later transferred to the Birmingham Children's Hospital, where he died the following day.

A spokeswoman for West Mercier police said they were treating the baby's death as unexplained. She added that nursery staff were being voluntarily interviewed and that no arrests or charges had been made.

The baby bouncer was withdrawn from sale last week while police and trading standards officers carried out inquiries. A spokesman from Dudley Trading Standards office said, 'In some circumstances, particularly if the child is left unattended and/or the product instructions are not adhered to, a baby may become entrapped within the canopy.'
