Nursery nurses take campaign to the top

Nursery nurses have taken their campaign for increased pay and status for the profession to Downing Street and Whitehall. Six NNEBs who work for the Pre-school Special Educational Needs Service (PRESENS) of the education department at Brigh- ton and Hove City Council in Sussex have written to prime minister Tony Blair, the Department for Education and Skills and various MPs, including early years minister Baroness Ashton, to express their increasing frustration at a lack of career structure for nursery nurses. In the letter they said they felt undervalued with increasing workloads set against poor pay, but stressed that they found their job rewarding and enjoyable although it was frustrating to be regarded as 'second-class teachers'.
