Nurseries were required to submit a detailed and reflective account of their approach to care and learning, their involvement of children, parents and the community, and their plans for development. In addition, nurseries had to provide supporting evidence in the form of recent Ofsted reports and statements from parents.
Nursery World received many excellent entries, but these were eventually whittled down to just four finalists. Early years expert Wendy Scott was appointed as the competition judge and she paid visits to the four nurseries in September. Each visit lasted five hours, allowing Wendy plenty of time to talk to parents and members of the community, as well as staff and children.
