The conscious effort of the Children's House to focus resources and timeon staff development in the past year has had great results. The servicecomprises a Montessori nursery and out-of-school club, with 35 staffproviding care and education for 150 children.
The strategy 'Building a learning way of life' began with a root andbranch review of people development systems, followed with an analysisof training needs. Professional development 'is now the norm' and 'trulyembedded in the work of every individual in the company'.
From 2007-08, 22,000 was invested in training by the company andraising grant money, and the results show with staff turnover at just 7per cent, and 40 per cent of staff reaching Level 4 qualifications. Atraining manager was appointed and staff attended three internationalconferences.
