Kennford Playbox is a committee-run playschool in the village ofKennford on the outskirts of Exeter. It used to operate out of theparish hall but three years ago the hall was sold and the land used forhouses.
The villagers secured funding from the council and charities, and enoughmoney was raised to build a permanent building for the pre-school. Inits most recent inspection, Ofsted inspectors declared the pre-school'outstanding'. Ofsted found that Kennford Playbox makes 'excellent useof its outdoor play areas, allowing children to move freely betweenindoor and outdoor activities for most of each session'. As a result,children enjoy plenty of fresh air and physical exercise. They runaround, practice ball skills, climb and balance on large equipment oruse wheeled toys. Children enjoy digging in the sand, playing with wateror planting flowers and vegetables. The toys and equipment are storedlow down so children can access them when they want to.
