TASTE TESTING

Magical Tree Nursery in Burnley, Lancashire, hosted a menu tasting evening attended by more than 30 parents, players from Burnley Football Club and England under-21 footballer Jay Rodriguez. As part of the event, everyone had the opportunity to taste the nursery's spring menu and discuss recipes with its professional chef, Joanne Ashworth, who used to work with celebrity chef Gary Rhodes.

HORSE PLAY

Children from Bardney Playgroup in Lincolnshire learnt how to look after and ride a horse when a volunteer from the community brought her horse Rosie to the setting. Hayley Ruane, manager of the playgroup, said, 'The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, their faces lighting up when riding the horse. One child asked if they could take Rosie home.'

OUTSTANDING

Easterside Day Nursery, run by the Rosendene nursery group and based on the grounds of St Thomas More Primary School, in Middlesborough, Cleveland, is celebrating after becoming one of the first in Teesside to be rated as outstanding by Ofsted. Inspectors commented on the nursery's high-quality care and the 'exceptional environment provided by staff, which helps children to make significant progress'.

FIRE SAFETY

Busy Bees Nursery in Oldbrook, Milton Keynes marked International Firefighters' Day on 4 May. The nursery celebrated by inviting a local firefighter into the setting to talk about fire safety and learn about the special equipment they use.

HEARTFELT FUNDRAISER

The Old Station Nursery at Waterside South in Lincoln held a fundraiser in honour of local children's charity Keep the Beat, which supports families affected by congenital heart defects. The event, which raised more than £2,500, was in aid of Logan Whiteley, aged three, who attends the setting and underwent major open heart surgery after being diagnosed with a type of congenital heart disease at six weeks old.

A TOUCH OF NOSTALGIA

The Old School House Nursery in Kent played host to a performance by the Headcorn Morris dancers. One of the dancers used to attend the nursery 21 years ago.

DISNEY DAY

Elvetham Heath Day Nursery and Preschool in Fleet, Hampshire organised a Disney day for the children in their care. Children and staff dressed as their favourite Disney characters, acted out stories and took part in other themed activities.

TODDLE WADDLE

Children, parents and staff at Juice Nursery in Altrincham, Cheshire took part in the annual Toddle Waddle around Stamford Park, also in Altrincham, to raise awareness and funds for the charity Meningitis Trust.
