Nursery's work with China recognised

A Cheshire nursery school is celebrating after winning the prestigious International School Award for its commitment to teaching children about the wider world.

The Halton-based Warrington Road Children's Centre, which has a 65-year-old maintained nursery school, was rewarded for the work it has done in its twin town of Tongling, in the Anhui Province.

The school's headteacher and head of the Children's Centre, Fiona Kirby, has visited Tongling twice to teach and to train staff at an orphanage which looks after around 650 young children.

Ms Kirby said, 'This award recognises all the work the staff here have done to foster an international ethos with young children.'

A delegation from China, including Tongling's mayor, has also visited the Warrington Centre's nursery school to learn about nursery care in the UK.
