Off to move mountains

A job in a children's home in Mongolia may not be every nanny's idea of a career move, but for Liza Bowers it's a natural step for her prized nannying skills. She's aiming to raise the money to go next spring on a work placement organised by the international voluntary agency i-to-i. 'I heard about the project out in Mongolia and decided to put my experience to good use,' says Liza. 'Mongolia appealed to me because it is so different to what I know, and the project seems to be doing some real good for the children.' Liza has already distinguished herself by winning the Hampshire Nanny of the Year award (see Professional Nanny, January 2003). Now, if she gains the funding needed, she'll be working with orphans and other children under 14 who once lived on the streets of Ulaan Bataar. To make a donation to her trip, e-mail liza-bowers@ tesco.net or call 0771 259 2394.
