Ofsted inspections

The latest annual report from Ofsted shows that early years provision is continuing to improve, with nearly two thirds of settings rated good or outstanding.

Figures for 2008/09 show 95 per cent of early years providers rated satisfactory or better. Patrick Leeson, Ofsted's director of education and care, said, 'The good news for the childcare sector is that the quality of early years provision in the Foundation Stage continues to improve. However, we need to do more to support and improve the provision in deprived areas, as they tend to perform less well.'
