Through the Oliver Steeper Foundation, Lewis and Zoe Steeper – the parents of Oliver who tragically died in 2021 after choking on food while at nursery – are trying to raise enough money to pay for LifeVac anti-choking devices for all childcare settings, including training to use them, across the UK.
Childcare settings in Kent, where the Steepers live, will be the first to receive the regulated medical device, which is licensed in the UK to be used by anyone in a choking emergency.
The Steepers, who have so far raised more than £2,680 for the devices, state on their Go Fund Me page, ‘In September 2021, our world shattered following the death of our beautiful little boy Oliver (aged 9 months) who sadly choked on pasta and died a week later from catastrophic brain injuries caused by hypoxia following the choking episode. Shortly after, we started the Oliver Steeper Foundation with the sole intention of providing LifeVac anti-choking devices free of charge into childcare settings, including training to use them.
‘We came across LifeVac shortly after his [Oliver’s] death and thought what an amazing device this is. We strongly believe it would have helped Oliver stand a chance of still being here today.’
