Resources

Two toolboxes (containing safe-play tools), pretend petrol pumps and air compressors, wheeled toys, ramp (made from large wooden blocks), overalls, cloths, tubes (exhaust pipes), labelled plastic bottles (oil cans), tyres, table, office equipment, car manuals, photographs of cars and diagrams of engines

Activity content

* Invite a mechanic to visit the setting. Encourage the children to ask questions about the role of a mechanic and ask the mechanic to show the children the contents of the toolbox, explain their purpose and to show them how, for example, a spanner is selected to loosen a particular nut.
