'One message for reception'

A leading organisation representing early years professionals has urged the Government to 'clarify contradictory messages' being received by reception class teachers. Members of Early Education passed a resolution at its recent AGM in London saying that it would lobby the Government, and in particular the Department for Education and Skills and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, to clarify the contradictory messages that reception class teachers were getting from the national strategies, Ofsted, LEA advisors and the Foundation Stage guidance.

They also called on the Government to provide Foundation Stage training and professional development for practitioners who were not trained in working with young children, and to ensure that data collected from the Foundation Stage profile was used to enhance children's learning and progress, 'rather than simply to measure and compare their achievements'.
