One rule for all

Maggie Dyer cannot have been following all the correspondence on Nursery World's letters page over the past few months. Registered childminders do not smack the children they look after, nor smoke in front of them. We wish to work in the same way as every other early years provider, but the Government will not listen to the lobbying of the National Child-minding Association and the letters from NCMA members.

As professionals we cannot leave it to parental choice as to how we look after and discipline their children in our care - it has to be one rule for all to maintain the status quo. Childminders do not smack nor smoke when we are working, if we smoke at all.
