Open for business

Edinburch Council officially opened its new Children and Families Department on 1 April. The department unites the council's existing Education Department and the children and families section of the Social Work Department to make services more fully integrated. The Children and Families Department will be the largest in the council and the expansion will enable closer working relationships between schools, social workers and other professionals. Two new children's centres have been opened in West Sussex. The 1.5m Broadfield Children's Centre in Crawley, which opened on 19 March, has a 30-place nursery, ten-place creche, parents' room and cafe area. On 12 April a 1.3m centre opened in Littlehampton, with a creche, a 50-place nursery and facilities for courses on health and well-being.
