BACKWARD WITH EYPS

It is unbelievable that someone with no childcare experience or qualifications can undertake Early Years Professional Status, therefore achieving the status with no real understanding or knowledge of childcare practice and child development.

This undermines childcare as a profession, as did the move from a nursery nurse being a qualification to becoming a job title and levels being introduced. These levels bear no common relationship - for instance, the same level can be achieved through two years study full-time at college with theory and practice assessed throughout, to reaching the same level in a fraction of the time with no observed practice and very little knowledge of theory.
