Other parties pick shadow ministers

Gordon Brown's new cabinet has been followed by a ministerial re-shuffle by Conservative leader David Cameron, in which the Times columnist Michael Gove was named last week as the shadow Secretary for Children, Schools and Families - the opposite number to Ed Balls.

The frontbench team working with him includes Nick Gibb, Maria Millerand Tim Loughton. Former shadow education secretary David Willetts hasbecome shadow Secretary for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

For the Liberal Democrats, David Laws has moved from shadowing work andpensions to become the shadow Secretary for Children, Schools andFamilies. Annette Brooke is the shadow minister for children, youngpeople and families, Greg Mulholland the shadow minister for schools andSarah Teather is the shadow Secretary for Innovation, Universities andSkills.

In Wales, Carwyn Jones has taken up the new position of Minister forEducation, Culture and the Welsh Language in the Welsh Assemblygovernment.

Jane Davidson, the former minister for education and lifelong learning,has moved to the environment brief.
