I think most of us will already own a copy of Bruce and Meggitt's original book, but it is worth buying this updated version because they have added a chapter on observation and assessment, specifically linked to the Foundation Stage. As far as I'm concerned learning about the new Foundation Stage assessment has focused my students more and they have a better understanding of why we have been making them observe children in their work placements. I found this book particularly useful with the DCE and BTec Early Years students, although some found it hard going, and with careful editing and lots of small group work I have even used some of this with my CCEs. The book's introduction suggests it will be useful all the way up to the new Foundation Degree and beyond.
