It consists of a series of 22 fairly brief 'episodes', not chapters, written as if in the voice of the title child. The preface is worth quoting: 'The child in the story is a composite of hundreds of children who had no voice to declare their perspective on life and little power to shape their own lives had it not been for well-informed and sensitive carers.'

This narrative approach enables us to experience the world through the mind and 'voice' of a child who has visual impairment, no speech and multiple physical disabilities. The lively and humorous story is interspersed with boxes giving further research and practical information. 'In a nutshell'
