An online directory which details extended schools provision across thecountry, and a leaflet advising parents on how to continue to developout-of-hours activities to meet local needs, have been launched to helpthe Government reach its target of providing extended services in everyschool by 2010.
Children's minister Beverly Hughes announced at a DCSF conference lastweek that 65 per cent of schools already offer a full programme ofextended services. But, she said, 'I believe parent power is the key tohelping the Government meet its target.'
She added, 'It's crucial that parents get the opportunity to shapeservices in their area. By speaking to their school staff and discussingthe needs of their family and the wider community, parents can drive theprovisions in their area and encourage schools to provide the full rangeof extended services.'
