The three unions involved, Unison, GMB and T&G, and local government employers have agreed to a set of ACAS proposals to recommend to their members over the next six weeks. The proposed two-year pay deal has increases ranging from 7.7 per cent to 10.9 per cent for the lowest paid.
All council workers would receive a 3 per cent increase, with a new minimum pay rate of 5 an hour backdated to 1 April 2002. This would be followed by a further 1 per cent rise from 1 October this year, plus another 1 per cent for staff on the lowest two grades.
