People and places a monthly round-up

* A primary and nursery school in the Scottish Borders is undergoing an outdoor facelift thanks to the Royal Bank of Scotland's three-year Supergrounds project. Channelkirk School, near Lauder, will have a 4,000 playground upgrade in the spring, with the new area used to hold outdoor classes and break times. Supergrounds was launched in 2004 to help 450 schools improve their outdoor facilities. The programme is managed by Learning Through Landscapes and environmental charity Groundwork. * Little Hoots Pre-School in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, held a successful Toddle Waddle in aid of the Meningitis Trust. The children enjoyed a day of activities including jigsaws, water play, creative play and building blocks, raising over 400 altogether.

* Somerset Nursery in Glasgow is still collecting money for Children in Need following a week of fundraising activities and events. Older children enjoyed a sponsored bounce and toddle, while the babies had a sponsored crawl. The nursery also held a pyjama party and created a gallery of Pudsey Bear artworks. So far they have raised more than 500.

* Children and staff at Mid Gavin Nursery in Renfrewshire joined in fundraising for Children in Need when they held a competition for the most outrageous pyjamas. The nursery has also raised money for a living willow dome and tunnel in memory of a staff member who died.
