Planning problem

I read the story 'Planning dispute hits childminding network' (6 June) with interest as I have experienced similar difficulties. I work from home with two other registered childminders and, due to the number of children we could potentially care for, social services told me I should either reduce the number of children or register as a day nursery.

Although we followed the social services' advice and registered as a day nursery, there were all sorts of implications, one of which was planning permission. Although nothing but our status was to change, there was uproar from our neighbours. They strongly opposed us on grounds of potential noise and nuisance and creeping commercialism - I should mention I live in a conservation area.
