Plans and providers unveiled for new EYP programme

The Children's Workforce Development Council is funding a total of 7,200 places on the new Early Years Professional Status programme between 2012 and 2015, with expectations of a large additional number of self-funded candidates across the programme's lifetime.

The first intake will be in January, with funding available for 1,700 candidates.

CWDC said that contracts have been won by the eight leading training providers on the basis that they have robust systems in place to support delivery of the programme. Under the current arrangement, lead providers use their partners to reach more candidates across the regions in England.

According to the CWDC, performance management of the contracts will be tightly managed. Thom Crabbe, national manager for early years, said, 'There are a lot of familiar names continuing to deliver EYPS, but we also wanted to bring in new organisations which show they can bring something new. Including all of the partner organisations, there are now more than 30 providers and this makes for a good mix.'
