Playdough solution

In answer to Jane Mills' plea for help regarding making non-sticky playdough (Letters, 25 September), I use the cheapest supermarket flour which costs 15p per bag, and use a Pre-school Learning Alliance recipe. This dough needs no cooking, but use boiling water. It will last as long as cooked dough.

Use two cups of plain flour, half a cup of salt, two teaspoons of cream of tartar, two tablespoons of cooking oil, two cups of boiled water, and food colouring.

Mix together all of the dry ingredients in a bowl, then make a hollow in the centre and add the oil. Next add the food colouring to boiling water, then pour into the hollow. Mix until it 'comes together', then turn out on to table and knead well.

Store in an airtight container. It should keep for weeks.
