Since being appointed pre-school supervisor in April 2001, I have been involved in many aspects of pre-school life, from fundraising to writing and implementing policies and procedures, with some of this work undertaken as an unpaid committee volunteer. Our committee works tirelessly at fundraising so we can buy new equipment, provide parties and outings, and so on. Our chair is a qualified primary teacher, and our treasurers manage the pre-school budget professionally and efficiently, despite having many personal commitments of their own.
I know that within every profession there is good and bad, but our group works well together. I regard our parents as an essential resource and many have skills to offer our children, even if they do not possess formal childcare qualifications.
