Primary schools in rural Scotland

Primary schools in rural Scotland are expanding to become the 'hubs' of local communities, says a report by Children in Scotland. A Sense of Time, A Sense of Place, said many schools offer additional services, most commonly nursery provision. Other services included baby clinics, creches, parenting programmes, breastfeeding support groups and after-school and breakfast clubs. The findings were originally presented at a Children in Scotland conference (see Nursery World, 17 March). The report costs 8 for Children in Scotland members and 12 for non-members and can be ordered from 0131 222 2410.
