Primary Steps chief quits top job

The chief executive of nursery group Creative Education Corporation, which trades under the brand name Primary Steps, has resigned. David Alexander has been replaced by acting chief executive Paul Ayres, who was previously the company's executive director.

In a statement, CEC chairman Chris Phillips said, 'On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank David for his contribution to the company. We wish him well for the future and are glad that he will continue to act as a consultant to the company.'

In the winter 2006 issue of Nursery World's supplement Nursery Chains Primary Steps came number 14 in the league table of the UK and Ireland's largest nursery groups. It has 30 nurseries and 1,534 places, although it is believed that its Chichester nursery could close at the end of the month.
