Managing Children's Behaviour By Sheila Riddall-Leech

By Sheila Riddall-Leech

(Heinemann, ISBN 0 435 45532 X, 12.99, 01865 888080)

Reviewed by Jennie Lindon, child psychologist and early years consultant

Early years practitioners seek ideas to guide them in dealing with and reflecting on children's behaviour. This book aims to explain relevant theory and offer practical advice.

The author has provided a great deal of information, but her choices and organisation have created a less than helpful book. There is almost as much on Pavlov's dogs as on bullying - surely a more significant topic. Sections on cognitive theory, self-esteem and the impact of disrupted attachment are all potentially important but are not well connected with the main themes of the book.
