A project that links childcare providers and schools together has proved successful in preparing parents and children for what to expect before they start Reception.

The Starting School Together project was run by PACEY and funded with £350,000 for a pilot year by the Department for Education.

It was designed to support the transition into school, supporting schools, childcare practitioners and families and targeted at the most vulnerable children.

It built on findings from a 2014 PACEY survey that found that many parents were very anxious about their child starting school, and that around a quarter felt they did not receive enough information about the process from schools and local authorities.
